Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,”[a] for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’[b] or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
5 He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
6 He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7 Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.
There is a critical piece of thinking that has been lost in our desire to be humble. We have lost it in the quagmire of a minority mindset. We have avoided it for fear of being accused of triumphalism or glib smugness.
But it is still true.
And right now, in the face of war, pandemics, famine, unemployement, illness, a cost of living crisis and numerous other issues, we need to take it off the shelf, dust it down and believe it once again.
Do you know what it is?
We win.
If we believe in Jesus Christ for our salvation, we win.
If we trust in His work on the cross to save us, and nothing else, we win.
If we hold on to the end, through whatever troubles we face, we win.
There is nothing more solid.
There is nothing more certain.
There is nothing more true.
So hold on, Christian.
Hold on while the fakes and the fools decieve the masses.
Hold on while emperors and dictators wage war, wax and wain.
Hold on while the seas rage and the oceans roar.
Hold on while the earth quakes and the plagues strike.
Hold on while fear stalks the streets and hunger stalks our dining tables.
Hold on while our bank accounts empty and our offices close.
Hold on. Just hold on.
Because the single greatest truth you need to know right now is that real Christians win.
They win.
Not because of who they are or what they have done or what they have been through.
But because of Christ. No-one else.
Real Christians know it. Real Christians believe it. Real Christians want to share the victory with others.
